The Building Inspection Department is led by Bill Trout, Sr. He has over 20 years of experience as an inspector. Bill is responsible for ensuring that all proposed structures are in compliance with current building codes. He also manages staff and their day-to-day operations.
The Building Inspector’s responsibilities include:
Administers the City’s building and other construction related codes
Consultations with builders, business owners, home owners
Contractor License Program
Enforces City Ordinances
Fire/Life Safety Inspections
Inspects new construction
Investigates nuisance complaints
Investigates possible dangerous structures
Issues building permits
Building Department Administrative Assistant
Jessica Shay-Howell is the Assistant for the Building, Planning, Zoning and Engineering Departments. She is responsible for answering phones, assisting people at the front counter and scheduling inspections. She administers the contractor licensing for the City of Paola. Additional duties include attending Paola Planning Commission meetings and taking minutes and assisting the Planning/Zoning/Engineering Department as requested.
